Before Beauty has got to be one of my favorite Beauty and the Beast rewrites. It expertly removes the prince actually turning into an animal (which has made some people uncomfortable) while still catching the heart of the tale. This book also contains underlying messages of love and forgiveness, and shows that a romantic tale can be more than just starry eyes and kisses. What I especially loved about this book was the way it showed a higher meaning and order in the story--a Maker--behind the magic. There was meaning to the fights and trials of the characters, more to the book than what first meets the eye. I greatly enjoyed these Christian themes that ran though the story and held it up. It wouldn't be half the book without them.Tags : Before Beauty: A Retelling of Beauty and the Beast [Brittany Fichter] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. <b>Can an accursed prince and a broken beauty move beyond their hatred for one another, not only to break the curse and save their kingdom,Brittany Fichter,Before Beauty: A Retelling of Beauty and the Beast,CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform,1508601860,FICTION Fairy Tales, Folk Tales, Legends & Mythology
Before Beauty A Retelling of Beauty and the Beast Brittany Fichter 9781508601869 Books Reviews
I have read all 3 books in this trilogy and found them thoroughly enjoyable. Fairy tale variations are my new interest and have read several that were so so. Since I am way past the age of not knowing basic fairy tale plots, I want more to the story. This set of books definitely had more. The world building was exciting, the characters were interesting, and the plot moved along at a 'definitely held my interest' pace. You do need to read them in order.
Nice clean well written story of Beauty and the Beast. I enjoyed the plot; it was an unusual and interesting take on the story and the character's struggles and how they overcame it. The characters were well developed. Look forward to read the other books I got from the author. Looks like these character's story will be continued in the next book, however it's a continuation in their life not the ending to this book. Gland to finally see a story that is complete that I don't have to buy book 2 to see how it ends.
This was a very interesting story to read. It was refreshing to see the brokenness of both main characters, which had to be overcome in order to triumph in the end. Both Ever and Isa had lost at a young age what they most sought for, and longed for...and both had to pass through the fires in order to find themselves and each other, and to heal. This author is gifted at bringing to life with great depth, these struggles, and in painting all the characters involved in the story into vivid life. Her world building is fantastic, and the plot well executed...if a bit rushed. I would like to see her rewrite this one in about ten years time, after age and experience has honed her pen a bit more. But all in all, a marvelous read and I find myself eager for more.
To say this book is amazing is and understatement!! It is one of my all time favorites!!! It might just be that beauty and the beast has been my favorite since I was little but this retelling is so sweet and wonderful and everything u could ask for! Fell in love with it nd it still makes my heart so happy just thinking about this book!! Please don't pass it up. So excited to continue on with the series!!!
As the mother of a child with significant physical and developmental challenges, I was excited to read about a differently-abled heroine. However, the story did not pan out as I had hoped. Unfortunately, this book reinforces stereotypes that disability = brokenness and happy endings only come once miraculous healing occurs. I feel disheartened after reading it and can't recommend it.
When I began reading this book I was mad that I didn't have enough time to finish it one sitting. Mrs. Fichter, did such a great job of creating a new world where her characters were seemingly consumed and confronted by adversity at every turn, meanwhile interweaving their backstories with magic and fairy tale lore. I especially loved the symbolism of "The Fortress" and the self-actualization the main characters, Ever and Isa experience throughout the story. By the end of the book you will understand the true definition of love through the relationships of the characters. This novel will appeal to Beauty and the Beast lovers (like myself) or people who enjoy stories about conquering your fears and rising above hardship. I highly recommended this read, you will not be disappointed.
Remakes of the Beauty and the Beast fairy tale have always been my favorite. What Brittany has written here is nothing like the past versions I have read. You can trace definite links from this story to the original which I do love, but that is where the similarities end. It is full of sadness, intensity, hope and power. I don't know how else to describe it without spoilers so I will end the review saying that I have owned it for a couple of months now and have read it 3 times. As far as I know this is only the first or second book she has written and she is very talented. I am ready for the next in the series!
