One of my favorite fantasy collections. If you are reluctant to commit to Sanderson's mega sized epics in the Wheel of Time series or the partially completed Stormlight Archive, then start with the Mistborn trilogy. The books are fairly short and the series had been completed so you can read the full story end-to-end in a few weeks without waiting months or years for the next installment. My favorite part is Sanderson's take on magic. There is a realistic element similar to Patrick Rothfuss that makes the reader think that some of the tricks just might be possible under the right conditions.
I highly recommend this series.

Mistborn Trilogy Boxed Set Mistborn The Hero of Ages The Well of Ascension Brandon Sanderson 9780765365439 Books Reviews
Slow start and felt a bit unappealing for the beginning portion of the story.
But what a strong finish. The plot was intricate, complex, and some strong characters were able to drive the story forward very well. The writing can be a bit drab at times, and the series seems less polished than his later works of fiction within the "cosmere" (read Stormlight Archive series).
However, upon further reflection, the atmosphere surrounding the story and its central characters was necessary to convey the mood of the dreadfully unfortunate balance of the world's ecosystem. An environment wherein which only the genetically predisposed may take advantage of and climb up the deeply oppressive social ladder.
The characters are a bit one-dimensional at times, but that doesn't take much away from still being able to enjoy the story, and it's certainly full of surprises. They're also able to evoke some insightful thoughts, and also play with the concepts of altruism and actions towards the "greater good" of civilisation and mankind.
All in all, worth a read. I burned through the second and third parts like wildfire.
The Mistborn series is one of my new favorite book series and I actually originally bought the Mass Market Paperback editions of this series but when I saw these covers it was a must buy!
The Mistborn series is set in a world where the "Chosen One" failed and Evil prevailed. In an attempt to defeat the Final Empire and to score in a hopefully big reward a group of criminals dare to preform the ultimate heist and defeat the Lord Ruler. Fans of high fantasy will love the unique magic system, crazy plot twists, and unique cast of characters.
For people who have not yet read the series you may want to consider the Mass Market Paperback editions as they are significantly cheaper but for Brandon Sanderson fans I recommend this beautiful edition as it will make your bookshelves gorgeous!
Happy Reading!
Loved the series! It's got the usual plot twists and turns, but unlike so many movies and books these days Sanderson doesn't turn to the deux ex machina or jumping the shark to solve the problems. He uses the rules of his world and plot points he's hinted at all along. It's amazing to finally see endings that (barring the fact this is magical fiction) are believable.
His unique and well defined perspective on magic in this series is very well thought out. His characters are very well developed, and you can learn enough about them to feel connected. The main character grows across all three novels in a very believable and human way. I can't say enough good things about this book. If you like this realm of fiction, read it.
One of the best trilogies I've found! Seriously, it's a must have. This was an amazing price for all three. I wasn't expecting them to be so small when I ordered them, though. They are very compact so it can make it a little annoying when trying to read the pages and keep it open but I'd buy it again just because the price is so good!
I'd read these before purchasing this set, I just wanted to have a copy for myself and so I could lend it to others and spread the Sanderson addiction. Seriously, if you like hard magic and gritty fantasy, get these books. What do I mean by hard magic? Do you like when magic has a strict set of rules? Think "Avater The Last Airbender" as hard magic, with a set logic, versus "Lord of the Rings" as soft magic, which can do pretty much anything needed by the story. That's the backdrop of these books, and they allow for an incredible story. If you're like me, you'll look around trying to find out more about this world and discover that Brandon Sanderson has created an immense universe, called the Cosmere, in which this story and many others are just small parts. And all of these worlds share that common thread of having a magic system with hard rules. They play a greater or lesser role in each of the worlds, and half the fun in each is figuring out the rules they follow. The best part is, each of the worlds, they are all connected, and once you start recognizing those connections, you're jaw will drop. Get ready, though, there are a LOT of books, and the Cosmere is still growing. Its very much worth it. For all that and more, I had to give it a 5 star.
However, the packaging was bad. Just, really bad. The set was delivered in an box with now bubble wrap or anything inside. When I opened the box, the plastic wrap on the set was torn and the top two corners of the set's sleeve were torn badly and the included poster map was a bit wrinkled. The books don't appear to have any damage, thankfully, and the poster map wrinkles don't seem to be too terrible. It is a shame the sleeve was ruined, though, as I do like to keep those on my shelf. I'm not angry enough to return it, as the important parts are fine, but I am a bit disappointed. I hope in the future takes the same care packaging my precious books as they do with any other type of item I purchase.
The story has been good so far, but I need to purchase for my kindle. This format seems cheap and it’s deserving of the price.
The pages are falling out on page 2,4,6. I just started reading.
As I progress the words are so close to the spine that I become concerned I’ll cause harm by how hard I need to force it open, and it’s just difficult to read in this way. Ultimately I’m purchasing again for my kindle because I don’t want to fight this hard to read.
